Andy Pickering master thatcher hampshire west sussex south wales listed building ridge patch thatching andrew repair repairs reridge

As a master thatcher with over 35 years of experience, my extensive background, craftsmanship, especially within the context of historic buildings, and reputation for excellence would mean your thatched roof is in safe hands.

I began my thatching apprenticeship in 1985 under the guidance of a local thatcher, and since then, I have built a long and successful career in this traditional craft.

I established my own business in 1991, and over the years, I have had the privilege of working on a wide range of thatching projects, including long straw, combed wheat reed, and water reed applications.

My portfolio includes notable locations such as St Fagan’s Welsh Museum, the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum and the Goodwood Estate, as well as several celebrity homes. Additionally, I have had the unique opportunity to work on film sets and at events like the Earl’s Court Ideal Home Exhibition. I have also completed projects in both Holland and Italy, showcasing my versatility and commitment to the craft on an international scale.

Throughout my career, I have maintained a perfect track record—never once having had a leak or a disappointed customer.

I am a sole trader (not Limited), fully insured with NFU Mutual and I don’t charge VAT.

My focus on quality, precision, and attention to detail has earned me a loyal clientele. I am also well-versed in fire protection techniques, particularly the Dorset Model, ensuring that every project I complete meets the highest standards of safety and durability.

In addition to my hands-on work, I offer a comprehensive range of services, including free quotations for complete rethatches, repairs, and re-ridges. I can also provide insurance and home buyer reports to support clients in assessing the condition and value of thatched properties.
